Power of Decision II

A contemplative continuation about the consequences of choosing freedom and about what it means not only to recognize it, but to live it.

The Perfect Life.

There are limits no one can cross. Insurmountable obstacles. We all know how far our possibilities reach. Why should we try to overcome an obstacle if it is, in fact, insurmountable?

Freedom? What about freedom?

A human being is mortal, and the time available to us is limited. There is no doubt about that. Everyone has one life. How many lives have there been so far? Not a single one has made it. Freedom does not exist. This is what we believe, this is what we know. It is logical, and there are endless reasons that prove it irrefutably.

Irrefutable? What about the irrefutable?

In the end comes death. Before that was life. Some believe in a life before life. Others believe in a life after death. Everyone knows there is life and there is death.

Objectivity? What about objectivity?

We humans are doubters. Objectivity exists only in our imagination. Yet imagination is limited by what we know. Doubts about our freedom. Doubts about our immortality. Objectively speaking, these are only subjective doubts.

Limits? What about limits?

We all have potential. We can break through the limits of our imagination at any time. We don’t want to. We believe in time. We believe in the duration of a second. We believe what we think we know. Why don’t we believe what we want to believe?

Will? What about will?

We are all free. We always have the choice to decide for or against freedom. Yet we are shaped by experiences and fears. Freedom is a decision we do not want to make. Freedom is uncomfortable. Freedom means responsibility. Freedom means standing against what everyone else knows. Freedom means fighting! How can we be free and fight at the same time? Are we not freer when we do not fight? There is no risk. There is no failure. We are always right. We hate being wrong.

Time? What about time?

A second, a minute, an hour, a day. In between, only a sequence of past events and the prospect of future ones. They all remind us how much time has passed and how much time remains. Time is a precious commodity. The most valuable thing in our lives.

Life? What about life?

A single moment in which we are completely happy. Filled with such joy, it makes us forget all doubts. There is no regret. There is no fear. How short was an unused life? How unreal does death become when even the last second is perfect?

Truth? What about truth?

Every opinion is right. No opinion is wrong. Free is the one who decides that they are free. Whoever decides to fight against others cannot be free. Whoever decides not to fight against others fights against their own doubts.

Whoever has decided that they are free has won the fight.
